there are few nuances..
if you want to use a camcorder with your laptop, you should also get usb capturing device (if you don't have built-in one in your notebook). you can't get camera picture in fullHD or through firewire, just composite or s-video pal/ntsc. camcorder should have such video outs.
also, there are 2 different modules for cam feed - VIDCAP (it have no settings and gives 320x240 pix) and VIDPLAY (it allows to select source, resolutions, fps and color mode - but it is unstable and do not process deinterlacing. all cameras (except webcams and heavy super-puper-pro cams) feeds interlaced video, so your image will be 720x576 but awfully striped. my opinion - 320x240 is better than interlaced 720x576..
another side - if you plan to use your camera at nightclub, keep in mind lack of illumination and strobe/impulse lights - cheap camcorders may have no enough sensitivity to work well in such conditions..
it's hard for me to give you specific solution - it must be tested and checked at your side..
